The late Gershon Salkind, one of Israel’s most prominent industrialists, was the driving force behind Elco, the company founded by his father Alexander. From small beginnings manufacturing transformers and adapters for the Israel Electric Corporation, among other clients, Elco significantly expanded its operations under Gershon’s leadership, becoming one of the largest businesses in Israel. Today, the Elco Group portfolio includes several major companies, such as Electra Ltd., Electra Consumer Products, Electra Real Estate, and Supergas.
The “Striving for Excellence” Fund was established to encourage and facilitate the study of engineering and exact sciences in Israel, perpetuating the legacy of Gershon Salkind, realizing his vision, and commemorating his life’s work in the most meaningful way. With this goal in mind, the Fund will award academic scholarships on an annual basis to outstanding candidates among Elco Group employees, their children and spouses, and the general public.
